“From the Field to the Boardroom”: Diverse Careers in the Sports Industry
As part of the Expert Talk Series, Delhi Public School, Durgapur organised a seminar titled “From the Field to the Boardroom – Diverse Careers in the Sports Industry” for students of Classes XI and XII, with participation from more than 250 students.
The session was conducted by Dr. Puneet Bhattacharya, International Karate Judge, Gold Medallist and Assistant Professor at Jadavpur University, Kolkata. Going beyond conventional sporting careers, the session introduced students to diverse opportunities in sports journalism, sports psychology, physiotherapy, coaching, sports management, nutrition, fitness training, sports marketing and event management.
Special emphasis was placed on the NEP 2020 approach and the three principal pathways for pursuing a career in sports. Students were also introduced to reputed institutions and programmes in India, including opportunities in Kolkata, the Indian Institute of Management, IIT Madras Centre of Excellence in Sports Science and Analytics, and NSNIS. The discussion covered eligibility, course duration, approximate fees, salary prospects and government opportunities through sports quota.
An engaging Q&A session enabled students to clarify their queries regarding qualifications, skills and career prospects, while the visual presentation encouraged them to interpret data and explore possibilities independently.
