“For the Nation, For the Future”: Careers in Defence
A career guidance session titled “For the Nation, For the Future: Careers in Defence” was organised for students of Classes XI and XII to create awareness about the diverse career opportunities available in the Indian Air Force. The session was conducted by Flight Lieutenant Deepali Gour, who shared valuable insights into pathways for pursuing a career in the defence forces.
Students were introduced to entry routes and examinations such as NDA and AFCAT, along with the selection process and the importance of preparation for the Air Force Selection Board (AFSB). The session also familiarised them with the different branches of the Air Force, including the Flying Branch, Ground Duty (Technical) and Ground Duty (Non-Technical), as well as roles involving fighter jets, transport aircraft and helicopters.
Importantly, the session highlighted that careers in the Air Force extend well beyond flying. Students learnt about professional opportunities in administration, logistics, accounts, education and meteorology, gaining a broader understanding of the specialised roles that contribute to the functioning of the defence services.
An interactive discussion allowed students to clarify their queries regarding eligibility, examinations, branches and career progression. Flight Lieutenant Deepali Gour’s personal experiences and practical insights added depth to the session and helped students gain a more informed understanding of careers in the defence forces.
