Game On: Careers in Physical Education and Sports Sciences
Career awareness seminar titled “Game On: Careers in Physical Education and Sports Sciences” was organized for students of Classes 11 and 12, with around 350 participants attending in two dynamic sessions on April 9,2025. The keynote speaker was Dr. Bidya Roy, Assistant Professor at Visva-Bharati, Shantiniketan. A Ph.D. holder and Gold Medalist in Yoga, Dr. Roy has earned numerous accolades, including the Chetan Chauhan Award and the ET Women Leadership Award – East India 2023. Her multifaceted expertise as a Yoga expert, International Zumba Trainer, and Rhythmic Gymnastics medalist brought a wealth of inspiration to the session.
Dr. Roy introduced students to a wide array of career options beyond the traditional realm of sports. These included Sports Management (with programs offered by IISWBM, NASM, and IISM), Sports Journalism (with reputed institutes like IIMC, ACJ, and SIMC), and Event Management. She emphasized how degrees like B.Sc. in Sports & Exercise Science (offered by institutions like Sri Ramachandra Centre and Manipal Academy), and M.Sc. in Sports Nutrition, Biochemistry, or Physiology can lead to careers as sports scientists, nutritionists, or physiologists.
Other options included becoming certified coaches, referees, sports psychologists, commentators, analysts, and even exploring unconventional fields like E-sports and Sports Photography. Platforms like Coursera, Udemy, and institutions like K11 School of Fitness Sciences and Netaji Subhas National Institute of Sports were also discussed.
The seminar was both enlightening and empowering, opening students’ eyes to the diverse opportunities in physical education and allied fields.
