“Navigating Data Science and Artificial Intelligence”
A masterclass on “Navigating Data Science and Artificial Intelligence” was organised for more than 200 students of Class XII Science. The session was conducted by Professor Dhaval Patel and Professor Sovik Roy of Ahmedabad University.
The masterclass introduced students to the fundamentals of Data Science, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence, beginning with a clear distinction between traditional programming and machine learning. The speakers explained how machine learning enables computers to identify patterns in data and make predictions or decisions, and also introduced students to Large Language Models (LLMs) and the role of data in training intelligent systems.
Through practical examples, students explored applications of AI in areas such as medicine, facial recognition, recommendation systems, data collection and human-computer interaction. The discussion also addressed the social dimensions of AI, highlighting both its capabilities and limitations, particularly in areas requiring empathy, ethical judgement and contextual understanding.
The speakers stressed the importance of future-ready competencies such as critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, data literacy, coding, communication and adaptability. An interactive Q&A session allowed students to explore AI applications, career opportunities and ethical concerns, giving them a deeper understanding of these rapidly evolving fields.
