NextGen pathways: A Career Counselling Seminar on New Age Careers
The career counselling seminar, titled “NextGen Pathways: Careers of Tomorrow“, for students of classes XI and XII, aimed to expose students to emerging career opportunities in today’s rapidly evolving world, going beyond traditional professions was conducted on April 30,2025. With approximately 350 students in attendance, it featured S. Sudarshan, Head of Communications and Outreach, Vellore Institute of Technology, Vellore, who discussed a wide range of new-age careers across Science, Humanities, and Commerce streams.
Students were introduced to exciting fields such as, AYUSH, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Analytics, Bioinformatics, B. Com (Banking), B. Com (GST), Data Science, Environmental Studies, Cognitive Science, Digital Marketing, Behavioural Economics, Entrepreneurship, Cybersecurity, Ethical Hacking, Flavour Chemistry, Quick Commerce, Image Management, and Financial Technology to name a few. The speaker emphasized the importance of aligning personal strengths, interests, and values with suitable career choices. He also highlighted the growing need for technical skills for future employment.
The interactive nature of the seminar allowed students to ask questions, clarify doubts, and understand the academic paths leading to these careers. The session also touched upon future trends in the global job market and how students can prepare themselves for careers that may not yet exist.
The seminar was a great success and left students inspired and better informed, empowering them to make thoughtful decisions about their academic and professional futures.
